Inside the Mind of a Running “Wanna-be”

Briana Murnion preparing to complete her daily mile run out in the winter snow and cold.

It is  the end of January in Montana and I am running. It has recently snowed another 6 inches and I am running. It is 10 degrees and I am running. Why am I running? If you saw me you would probably ask the same question. I am by no means fast. At 5’5” (okay 5’ 4” AND ¾) I am not built like a distance runner. Nothing is chasing me. I am not really enjoying myself. I am barely 3 blocks from my house and I am asking myself again ,“Why am I running?” As my belly jiggles under my four layers of clothing the answer is never far away.

After three pregnancies and about a decade of yo-yo dieting I know myself. I can not set a weight loss goal and succeed… on the long term anyway. I delivered my 2nd set of twins about 7 months ago and it is once again time to shed that extra poundage I put on last year. So this time around I decided to try a different (more…)

Mysteries of Superintendent Dave Mahon

So today, the Yellowstone County News published two articles about Dave Mahon, Superintendent of Havre Schools who resigned last week. It also turns out that Mr. Mahon resigned the same post at Huntley Project Schools in Worden, MT previously in the same fashion. However, the interesting twist is Mr. Mahon will get paid from the Havre School District for the next two years when he’s not even there.

According to the (more…)

Food Lovers’ Guide To Montana

I celebrated my release from Saint Vincent Hospital last week with a pleasant walk around Costco. The oncoming storm prevented us from checking out Sam’s Club. It sounds like others were doing the same thing there. I like to look at where the food and merchandise comes from and am always amazed that good stuff from other places can be sold so cheaply in Billings Montana. There must be (more…)

Annoying Co-Worker or Associate?

Are you that annoying co-worker? We provided some suggestions in hopes that it will help the workplace atmosphere.

OK, take a minute and think back to the last big family reunion or party you had.  Perhaps it was Christmas dinner or your buddy’s house full of people  of which some you knew well and others you just met. No matter how great the day concluded, one person could have easily ruined it for good. Maybe one person did!   You’ll always hear someone repeat, “There’s one in every group.”

Bet you didn’t know this but  there’s one in every workplace as well. Whether you work in a Dental  lab, call center, on the top floor of a high rise building or on a cattle ranch with your uncle, no occupation is immune to an annoying co-worker.  Yep, that’s right, the one who has the inept ability to take an enjoyable work atmosphere and (more…)

Cowboy Ethics: For Those to Ponder

Each of us have many perceptions in our head, which can be divided into two categories; perception of the way things are, or realities compared to the perception of  the way things should be or values.

This is the result of a cobwoy on his horse on a sunny day. OR could this be precieved to be something else? I'll let you be the judge.

Image of cowboy on a horse, or is it something else? I'll let you be the judge.

Whether your from Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, or Montana; I hope you can expect to find this type of attitude for hopefully the majority of cowboys in these locations.  Now I might be biased as I live in the country, I don’t see myself in the mirror as a real cowboy, just a country boy that loves the city!

However, that is all subjective and could be considered a matter of opinion. I have animals, but not a lot of them. I have a family but not too big. I have a truck but not new. I have cowboy boots and hat but always dirty. On those merits, does that make a person a cowboy? What about a (more…)

A Hamburger Worth Waiting For

A combination of Angus beef, about 85% lean I think with some tender and juicy beef brisket on top. You can have cheese added if you like. And of course pickles and onions too

This is worth talking about. A combination of Angus beef, about 85% lean I think with some tender and juicy beef brisket on top. You can have cheese added if you like. And of course pickles and onions too though if not sauteed forget about it for me. (more…)

Traffic Jam Jam

This is the season for looking over your pantry and thinking how clever you are to have bought all those great jams and jellies at the Farmer’s Market, especially now that the Market is done for the year.

I can’t resist items with plays on words. This jam (more…)

A Hamburger Today

A Hamburger with Cheese, Meat, and all the rest of the juices.

A Hamburger with cheese, meat, lettuce, pickles and all the rest of the fixins.

From time to time I post something about a good meal and especially a good hamburger. I thought it would be helpful to my readers to point out a website that does that sort of thing really seriously and well.  The website is (more…)
