Driving Down Grand Avenue
I happened to be heading west on Grand Ave this afternoon, doing some errands, when I drove by First National Pawn. I saw this car parked in front of the pawn shop out of the corner of my eye, so naturally I had to turn around to see if my eyes had played a trick on me. I have not seen any Rolls-Royces in Billings in thirty years.
But sure enough, there it was, right in front of me, parked on the sidewalk of course, so that lesser breeds of car wouldn’t come close enough to cast a shadow on this beauty. I went in to the pawn shop because I was curious to know if someone driving a Rolls needed to pawn something, or whether the Rolls had been pawned at some time in the past and now was for sale, or what the heck was going on.
Turns out that the owner of the First National Pawn on Grand and the other three here in Billings and scattered around the state of Montana and other places here in the northwest, Ben Brown I think the clerk said, who now lives in Hawaii and doesn’t get to Montana that often anymore decided to put it up for sale. I didn’t ask the price as they would have known I couldn’t afford it if I had been so brazen. I’m sure there is more to the story but I was in a hurry.
