Brown to pursue upset for US Senate Special Election?

Image of Scott Brown, (Not Taylor Brown) and Martha Coakley for Mass. US Senate seat.
Getting back into politics and elections this time of year seems a little premature. However, with the special election taking place in Massachusetts on Jan. 19th, it’s actually getting exciting. As Massachusetts is primarily a democratic state; it seems that independents and republicans have come out in full force for Brown. I’m not referring to Taylor Brown, (who many say should run for Montana Governor in 2012) but Scott Brown who is now in reach of Martha Coakley for the Senate seat. In fact, according to the new Public Policy Poll released yesterday, Scott Brown is ahead one point in the polls.
But with the margin of error being +/- 3%, the senate seat is up for grabs at this point and there’s only a week and a half to go. Yep, that’s right, we’re already coming down to the wire and it’s not a shut out like many thought it would be. In fact, the special election to fill Teddy Kennedy’s Senate seat is starting to remind us of the 2008 election. Do you remember when Hillary Clinton was deemed to win the 2008 election when she was surprisingly upset by Barack Obama in a long drawn-out battle for the democratic nominee? Well, this appears to be taking shape again but in the favor of the Republican candidate.
Apparently this election is as important as the 2008 presidential election because the US healthcare bill and debate is currently in the spotlight and the government takeover of our healthcare system is at it’s limbs. With President Obama trying to get health care passed quickly, this senate seat would prevent the democrats from just passing the bill through our legislative process. Now a filibuster is an option but some don’t want to drag it out anymore.
One can sense the tension brewing because Martha Coakley is now bringing in the big guns like former President Bill Clinton and John Kerry to help her campaign. It has not been confirmed that President Obama will come but don’t be surprised that if it gets close, it’s very possible for him to take a pit stop and say a few words of support.
On the flip side, the republicans and independents seem to have come forward in support of Scott Brown. A few to mention are Mitt Romney, John McCain, and Michael Steele. They have all shown their endorsement by coming to the plate and bat for Mr. Brown. However, according to my sources, “that intangible thing known as momentum is on Brown’s side and it’s very possible that an upset is in reach”. Nonetheless, it comes down to the voters on Jan.19th.

I forget who it was that said it—maybe Stalin—but in a state like Massachusetts who counts the votes is very important.
