Post Election Central – The Red Tsunami

Here are some more results from the 2010 Montana Elections that occurred this November for Republicans.  The resounding tsunami of red voters throughout the state has sent a message to Helena.  Here are some more things to think about as the 62 Legislative session begins January 3rd, 2011.

“The people of Montana sent a resounding message in the November 2ndelection that the Obama-Pelosi  way of doing business will not be tolerated in our state.  By casting their support behind Republican candidates, the votes have shown they want leaders who will stop the explosion of the size of government that occurred in Washington under Obama and in Helena under Schweitzer and his party. With broad-based support, Republican Legislators are committed to bringing about a new era of responsible fiscal management and long-term economic prosperity for the people of our great state.” – Senator Jeff Essmann, 2011-12 Montana Senate Majority Leader

Election Statistics:

  • 203,429 or 55.9% of total votes cast, went to GOP candidates in the House
  • Won 68 of 100 House seats.
  • Defeated 9 Democrat incumbent members of the house.
  • Won 8 open seats formerly held by Democrats.
  • Won 17 of 25 Senate seats,  with 1 pending recount
  • Won two open Senate Seats formerly held by Democrats in Great Falls and Havre.

Made major gains in Democrat strongholds including a 3 seat sweep in Havre, 3 House seats on Indian Reservations, and seats in Butte and Helena proper.  It will be interesting to see the layout in two years.
