St Patrick’s Co-Cathedral in Ordinary Time

DSCN1637

Steeple & Tree St Patrick's Co-Cathedral Downtown Billings, MT

This is the steeple of St Patrick’s Co-Cathedral here in Billings, Montana. A short lesson in terminology might be helpful.

From WikipediaOrdinary Time is a split season of the Christian (especially the Catholic) liturgical calendar. The Sundays after Christmas and Epiphany, the last 6 January, are Sundays in Ordinary Time. The others follow Pentecost. They do not fall under the “strong seasons” of Advent, Christmas, Lent, or Easter.

The English name is intended to translate the Latin term Tempus per annum (literally “time through the year”).

How do we get “Ordinary Time” from “time through the year”? (more…)

The Return of Doctor Muskett

Medical Cartoon

I was getting worried when I hadn’t heard for what seemed like months from my favorite cardiac-turned-plastic surgeon, Billings’ own Dr Alan Muskett. I know I’ve blogged about him in the past but I couldn’t find the entries, though I did find in back pages of the Gazette a number of other good articles by Dr Muskett. Chalk it up to advancing age, mine, not his.

By the way, one of the many ways you can measure your own decline is to re-read a few of your past attempts at sensible blogging, which I did while searching for blogs about the good Dr Muskett. Well OK, I enjoyed a few of them, mostly those I had borrowed from others. I think I actually improved the blogosphere a little by deleting some. I should have (more…)

The Rottweiler is a breed that was developed in Rottweil Germany. This breed is very strong and smart. They were used for driving cattle and carting. Some people think that at even one time they were used for hunting. They can be good dogs for the right family.

A lot of people don’t know but a Rottweiler was actually bred to drive cattle all day from farm to farm in Germany.

Picking the Right Breed for Your Family:

When your family feels the time is right to add a dog to the family, it is always a good idea to research the 100’s of different breeds.  You should research all dogs whether rescuing a mixed breed from the local animal shelter or buying from a breeder. All breeds of dogs (more…)

WineStaorage at The Soup Place

Finally, we had a chance to stop in for an evening meal at one of our favorite lunch time hangouts. They have a bigger menu in the evening, that is, more than just soup and sandwiches, but it is still fairly simple fare. The wine and beer (more…)

One of the welcome sites to Billings for those who visit.

One of the welcome sites to Billings for those who visit.

With the new year 2010 now upon us and the new years resolutions already shattered ( well, I hope not all of them); comes new life and energy.  As many of you know,  Mayor Ron Tussing is on his way out because come next week., the new Mayor elected back in Novemeber is Tom Hanel and he’ll take his place on Monday night at the head of the City Council Chamber meetings.  Mayor elect Hanel seems confident to get some new energy arriving in the Billings area from government communication to local activities in the local area.  One thing for sure, (more…)

This was an attempt to capture The Singing Christmas Tree at Emmanuel Baptist with a small digital camera without flash so as not to draw attention to myself.
