Mid-Summer Weekend in Billings
It seems like every time I turn around there is something added to the third weekend in July here in Billings. This is good for the merchants of Billings I’m sure. Let’s see, the obvious thing that comes to mind isĀ SummerFair, the Yellowstone Art Museum fling, this year at Veteran’s Park, suggesting a smaller affair than in the past. Still, it usually has some fairly high-class vendors;
and then there is the Big Sky State Games, which have actually been going on since last weekend and come to a climax on this coming weekend.
A new addition to the line-up this year is the Montana East-West Shriner’s Football Game for high school all-stars, used to always be held in Great Falls but now they are moving it around between Billings, Butte and Great Falls, and this year it is being played Saturday evening, 7pm start, at the new field in Laurel. A very nice article can be found in this week’s Billings OutPost. By the way, there is a lot of useful information on things going on in the area in this excellent weekly.
And of course, our very own Billings Mustangs will be playing teams from the Southern Division of the Pioneer League at Dehler Park, starting Wednesday evening with three games against Orem, followed by 4 games against league-leading Ogden through next Tuesday. See you at the ball game!
OK, that is just for starters. Today’s Gazette had an article about the Billings Saturday Farmer’s Market starting up this coming Saturday in its usual downtown place. A couple of new things were mentioned: one of these was an earlier start at 8am and the other was no dogs allowed.
Catholic churches all over Billings and the world will be celebrating the 16th Sunday in ordinary time.
Rick Steves will be at the Parmly Billings Library on Thursday at 12:15pm Thursday, showing a film on Prague and the Czech Republic for those of you wondering where to go in Europe this year.
Montana Shakespeare in the Parks will do Much Ado About Nothing in Absarokee, Fishtail Family Park, starting at 6:30pm on Thursday, July 14th. They are going to be in Pioneer Park here in Billings next Monday and Tuesday, doing Much Ado on Monday and The Merchant of Venice next Tuesday, start time 6:30pm
I’m guessing there are a lot of other things going on too, Legion baseball for one, probably Little League baseball too, dirt bike racing, fishing, gardening etc, and all that other summertime stuff.
